Key Stage 1 is the first stage of the National Curriculum in England and is designed for children aged 5–7. Building on the foundations established in the Early Years, pupils begin a more structured programme of learning while continuing to develop their curiosity, creativity and confidence.
We place a strong emphasis on the core subjects of English and Mathematics. Children develop fluency in reading through a systematic phonics programme, learn to write for a range of purposes and audiences, and build secure mathematical understanding through practical experiences, reasoning and problem-solving. Alongside these core subjects, pupils enjoy a broad and balanced curriculum that includes Science, History, Geography, Art, Design Technology and Engineering, Languages (including Thai and Mandarin), Music, Computer Science, Physical Education and Wellbeing.
Learning is designed to be engaging, purposeful, and carefully tailored to the developmental needs of young children.
Pupils are encouraged to ask questions, explore new ideas and develop the confidence to contribute their thoughts and opinions. Through collaborative learning and carefully structured experiences, children build strong communication skills, resilience and positive learning habits that provide the foundation for future success.
Supported by skilled teachers and teaching assistants, children develop the confidence and self-belief to approach new challenges with enthusiasm, laying secure foundations for the next stage of their educational journey.
By the end of Key Stage 1, pupils have developed the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to make a successful transition into Key Stage 2 and the next stage of their educational journey.
